And even though a number of the clues are hidden in plain sight during the show, they still utilize many interesting ciphers and codes to make the hunt challenging.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps my favorite cipher in the hunt was the <a href=\"http:\/\/lifehacker.com\/5807289\/how-to-hide-secret-messages-and-codes-in-audio-files\">embedding of text in an audio channel<\/a>. Contestants were directed to a\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XmVkqMt6Sn4\">youtube video<\/a> from previous clues. From there the audio is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.listentoyoutube.com\/after.php\">extracted <\/a>and stored locally and then loaded into <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonicvisualiser.org\/download.html\">Sonic Visualizer<\/a>. To view the embedded text, select the Layer Menu and then choose &#8220;Add Spectrogram&#8221;. For this example, the text &#8220;RPH8GBIMBU1WF0RVHXIUDWYQHIDR&#8221; was embedded in the audio. This text was then used as a passphrase for a <a href=\"http:\/\/rumkin.com\/tools\/cipher\/vigenere.php\">Vigen\u00e9re Cipher<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Vigen\u00e9re Cipher was just one of many ciphers used such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.decode.org\/\">ROT13<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.base64encode.org\/\">Base64<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easycalculation.com\/ascii-hex.php\">hex encoded ASCII<\/a>. A great website for web-based cipher tools is <a href=\"http:\/\/rumkin.com\/tools\/cipher\/\">rumkin.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All in all, the Archer Super Easter Egg Hunt is educational as well as fun.
